Galapagos journals Day 20

Dear diary,

Sorry for the delay in writing but the last few days have been a rush and I haven't had time to write. But I am here now.

Today was our last day in the Galapagos, and, as our flight took off late in the afternoon, we decided to have one last adventure: we went kayaking! It was so much fun paddling through the waves and watching the sea lions play with, under and around our kayak. One time, when we stopped to snorkel, a sea lion was munching on the kayak's ropes and clinging to our guide's and Ioanna's kayak, a bit like a sloth. So we called him 'a sea sloth' as a joke.

When we stopped at a beach, we were amazed to find that above the beach on a sand dune above, a pacific black sea turtle was laying and covering her eggs. We felt very lucky to see her as turtles usually lay their eggs at night, and then flop down to the beach and into the water.

The water was crystal clear and we snorkelled across the bays chasing fish and playing with sea lions. Once again, we were amazed with how unafraid and social the sea lions are in the Galapagos, ready to play with us, curling and twirling around us and coming right up close. Their bodies looked so graceful whirling in and out of water, without a care in the world and leaving me with an experience I'll never forget!

p.s Tomorrow, we are crossing to Colombia and country number 7 (our last 😔). Oh well...I guess we'll get to see the Caribbean (or, at least, I hope we will).

Bye for now

  3. What is the creature next to the sea turtle? Gosh how extraordinarily lucky you were to see her laying her eggs. What a joy the sea lion is. Beautiful.

Please kiss the soil when you reached Cartagena. They host some amazing music festivals there. Have a wonderful time in Colombia. Lots of love Mxx

    1. Hi Margl. That's a marine iguana - they hang out on all the beaches, warming up before their next forage, observing everything that goes on. Including just watching the turtle lay her eggs! Love Dan and Fam
