Blast the fortress of Cartagena !*#~!

Pirate Morgan roared at his crew: "Aaarrrggghh...all I want to do is get the gold from this blasted city and use it in my piraty ways! But nobody would let me! Just invade it, they said! But how?

"Cartagena is a city of untold riches and guarded jealously by the Spanish with large fortified walls and cannons shooting from them! It's just not possible! How I wish I could get in and wreck havoc in the streets, my pirate lads would be a fair match for the Spanish soldiers then.

"But I can see why they guard the city so vigorously. Cartagena is the most beautiful of cities, crafted from Spanish gold, and built in a place like no other. A major port and a key stop from the Potosi goldmines to the Spanish crown. Everyone wants a piece of its booty and everyone desires to conquer it. Haven't I seen hundreds of pirates before me who have tried and failed?

"And it's not just us pirates who charge in, greedy for its gold. It's the French, the Dutch and even the British who want to take it. Don't you remember, my boys, when the city was attacked by the British? They had 186 ships and 25,000 soldiers and still Cartagena did not fall! That Blas de Lezo, the one-eyed, one-legged and one-handed Spanish commander, with only six ships and 3,600 men repelled the British only to die shortly after the battle. Men die for Cartagena! At least, Blas de Lezo was known as the saviour of Cartagena!!

"But mark my words...I WILL be the first to pillage her, I WILL succeed where others have failed!  Heave ho, me hearties!"

P.s In the years to come and after almost 300 years of Spanish rule, Cartagena (known by its full name as Cartagena de Indias) will be liberated by Simon Bolivar, a South American hero who fought for the independence of four South American countries (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia) and gave Cartagena the nickname: La Heroica (the heroic city). After the liberation of Cartagena from the Spanish, Bolivar gave a famous speech saying "if Caracas (his home town) gave me birth, you, Cartagena, gave me glory!"
